Alaska Outdoor Council Supports Teach ‘Em Outdoors Camp

July 27, 2026 by Caleb Martin

Investing in Alaska’s Future—One Young Outdoorsman at a Time
The Alaska Outdoor Council was proud to sponsor this year’s Teach ‘Em Outdoors Camp, helping introduce Alaska’s next generation to the traditions, skills, and values that define our outdoor heritage.

Throughout the camp, families and youth participated in hands-on activities including firearms safety, marksmanship, trapping education, fishing, outdoor ethics, and conservation. Experienced volunteers shared their knowledge while emphasizing safe, responsible participation in Alaska’s hunting and fishing traditions.

The bright orange camp sweatshirts seen throughout the weekend represented more than a uniform—they represented a community of families committed to passing outdoor traditions from one generation to the next. Children had opportunities to safely handle their first .22 rifle under close supervision, learn about Alaska’s furbearers from experienced trappers, and spend meaningful time outdoors alongside parents, grandparents, and mentors.

As an organization dedicated to protecting Alaska’s hunting, fishing, trapping, and public access heritage, the Alaska Outdoor Council believes conservation begins with education. Every young person who learns safe firearm handling, ethical hunting, respect for wildlife, and stewardship of our public lands becomes part of the future of Alaska’s outdoor community.

The Council extends its sincere appreciation to Teach ‘Em Outdoors, the volunteers, instructors, partner organizations, and families who made this event possible. Together, we are ensuring Alaska’s outdoor traditions remain strong for generations to come.

Because when we teach a child to hunt, fish, trap, camp, or simply appreciate the outdoors, we’re protecting Alaska’s heritage for tomorrow.

Lyn and Lacey Hoffman started hosting Teach ’Em Outdoors camps in 2022 as a way to bring their backgrounds together and give back to Alaska’s youth. Lacey is a teacher, and Lyn is a hunting guide, so the camps are a natural mix of education, outdoor skills, and hands-on experience. Since getting started, they have welcomed more than 200 campers and their parents, creating a place where kids can learn while families spend real, quality time together outdoors. You can learn more about their work and mission at teachthemoutdoors.com.
